Entertainment

The 2 main tourist resorts of Siofok and Balatonfured which are situated on the shores of Lake Balaton offer a wide selection of restaurants, bars and a few night clubs which cater for all age groups. There are several Casinos which remain open until 4 am. Karaoke bars are also popular during the summer months when thousands of tourists from all over Europe visit the Lake Balaton area.

Balaton Sound is a three day music festival held on the shores of Lake Balaton. Held since 2007, it has developed into one of Europe’s largest open air electronic music festivals. In 2012 it was voted as Europe’s Best Medium Sized Music Festival. Past performers include Bjork and The Stone Roses. Held every July the festival attracts over 100,000 visitors and is usually sold out before the end of March each year.

Every August the Sziget major music festival is held on Obudai island in the centre of Budapest. The 2011 event was voted “ Best European Major Festival”. Headliners in 2012 included Caro Emerald, Friendly Fires, Korn, Noah & the Whale, Placebo, The Horrors, The Vaccines and Two Door Cinema Club.

The 2014 Festival will be held 11-18 August and confirmed bands include :-

At Sopron near the Austrian border the annual music festival is held towards the end of June– called Volt it is now in it’s 20th year. Previous acts to appear  -  Skrillex. Snow Patrol and Iggy & the Stooges as well as Lost prophets, Children of Bodom, Hadouken and Katy B.

For those that prefer more tranquil evenings then select one of the numerous restaurants that prepare locally produced food and serve fantastic local wine at unbelievable prices. Many restaurants have outdoor terraces with beautiful views across Lake Balaton and the Bakony National Park– enjoy amazing sun sets !

Alternatively stroll into your local village and enjoy inexpensive meals and quiet drink in the beer garden of the village pub.
