The south of Lake Balaton area covers Somogy, Tolna and Baranya counties, all noted for lush rolling hills, rich fertile soil and historic cities. There are famous wine growing areas here like South Balaton, Szekszárd or Villány-Siklós. There are also several protected areas belonging to the Duna-Dráva National Park, like Gemenc, Zselic or Mecsek, there are beautiful forests rich in wildlife. The main cities of Pécs, Kaposvár and Szekszárd are centres of study, trade and entertainment. This area is easily accessible from Budapes, Zagrab or Graz airports.

The small town of Deg with approx 2500 inhabitants boasts 3 supermarkets, library, Internet café, bank, doctors, dentist, pub, general hardware shops, builders merchant, café and butchers. There is a beautiful neoclassical castle (a listed monument) and there are a lot of rarities in the 62 acre highly protected park of the castle.

Regularly restocked and managed the lake contains large carp, cat fish and zander (Pike – Perch). A further 8 excellent fishing lakes within a 8 mile radius of the village. A river flows in and out of the lake.
A small riding school is within walking distance of the village. One of Hungary’s most renown and best equestrian centres (Kaboka) can be found only 8 miles away at Kabokapuszta. Both riding schools operate on a pay as you go basis (approx £8 per hour). Enying lies 5 miles south of Lake Balaton and is a perfect base to enjoy fishing and horse riding. It is a small town of 6900 people, there are kindergartens, junior and secondary schools, a music school, doctors and numerous shops and supermarkets. The health centre is located in a 19th century chateau.
Lajoskomárom
Lajoskomárom is a small, farming community of 2500 inhabitants which has a very relaxed atmosphere just a short drive south of Lake Balaton. The town is a popular fishing centre with 5 fishing lakes. Plans are underway to construct a new leisure complex comprising a thermal spa and golf course. It lies in a winemaking area and there is a street with wine cellers where you can purchase excellent wines. There is a kindergarten, a school, a library and an old people’s home. There are shops and restaurants in the town.

Ságvár
Ságvár is a small village with almost 2000 inhabitants just 3 miles south of Siófok. There is a nursery and a primary school. There used to be a Roman settlement here 2000 years ago. The airfield of Siófok-Kiliti-Ságvár has a grass runway which is suitable for aero sports and can be used as a landing field for small planes.

Siófok is one of Hungary’s most popular holiday destinations, famous for its beaches and nightlife. Siófok is one of the richest municipalities of Hungary due to tourism and acts as the commercial and tourism hub of the region. It is the so called capital of Balaton with 24 000 inhabitants. There are primary, secondary and vocational schools, restaurants, doctors, shops and all that could be expected from a city of that size. Siófok is a big holiday resort with many hotels, bars, restaurants and night clubs. Music concerts are held there during the busy summer months. The town reverts to normal life outside the peak holiday season.
